It’s the end of the year and time for another monthly obsessions post! Since my birthday and Christmas were both in December, I didn’t buy much for myself and subsequently didn’t try a lot of new stuff this month. So, this post will be a bit of a combo – December favorites and my biggest obsessions for 2013.
I received this mini Twisted Peppermint hand sanitizer as a gift from my mom. She always buys me some of these for Christmas since I like to keep a small one in my purse. As I was checking out my new scents, I was really shocked to find that I loved this peppermint scent.
I am not a peppermint person at all. People go crazy with peppermint drinks and treats and scents this time of year and I’m always just like “meh”. Something about this one just did it for me though. Now I am determined to get the candle version as well. I don’t know who I am anymore.
I try to rotate through my nail polish collection a lot, so when I wear a color more than once in a month it enters obsession status. This is another color I have had for a while and hadn’t got around to trying. I feared it would be streaky and see-through because it’s so light. I was pleasantly surprised to find it’s 100% opaque in 2-coats.
Also, despite it being not a typical winter or holiday color, I really like it for this time of the year. It could be inspiration from a recent cream/pink Christmas Etsy treasury I did.
A friend recently recommended this computer game to me. I’m not a huge gamer. I prefer a handheld console like Nintendo DS when I do. I downloaded it and started and 4 hours later when I was unexpectedly blown up I was irate and wanted to curse the makers of the game – but also immediately start playing again.
I’ll quote the official game description since I’m bad about describing this sort of thing:
“The communist state of Arstotzka has ended a 6-year war with neighboring Kolechia and reclaimed its rightful half of the border town, Grestin.
Your job as immigration inspector is to control the flow of people entering the Arstotzkan side of Grestin from Kolechia. Among the throngs of immigrants and visitors looking for work are hidden smugglers, spies, and terrorists. Using only the documents provided by travelers and the Ministry of Admission’s primitive inspect, search, and fingerprint systems you must decide who can enter Arstotzka and who will be turned away or arrested.”
I realize none of that sounds particularly exciting but it’s completely addictive and also infuriating (in a good way). Besides your day job you also have to allocate your meager pay to things like rent, heat, food and medicine for your family. They’re constantly hungry or cold and sick (darn them!) so it’s a struggle deciding how to allocate your funds. My first go around I tried to play it straight and not accept any bribes and my family members were dropping like flies.
Now for a couple standout products for the entire year:
Still obsessed with my EOS Lip Balm, particularly this one – honeysuckle honeydew. They smell and taste amazing, they are really moisturizing and smooth, and they don’t leave your lips even drier if you stop applying it constantly.
I got more for Christmas so maybe next year will feature a new flavor as a top obsession for 2014!
Revlon makes many of my favorite drugstore lip products. This one in particular – Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Creme Brulee – is my most reached for lip product for the year. Mostly because it’s a no-brainer and goes with everything. It’s kind of a brown toned neutral, but it’s sheer so it doesn’t come off super brown. I find that it tones down the natural pink tones in my lips so you get a nice nude/neutral look without looking like you have no lips at all.
It’s also really moisturizing and shiny, but I mainly love it because I know when I’m wearing a colorful eye and I have no idea what lip color goes with it I can count on this one.
I’m obsessed with my dogs so of course I had to feature a favorite of theirs too. I love Zuke’s products in general and I have reviews of more of their products here and here. But, overall my fave is the Hip Action Dog Treats. They have 300mg of glucosamine and 50mg of chondroitin per treat. I can’t remember to take my own supplements so you know I’m not going to remember to give them to the dogs. I can kill two birds with one stone with this product, and the dogs think they’re just getting a treat.
Last up for the year is Iced Chai lattes. Both Starbucks and my local cafe near work make a great one. I’ve been drinking hot chai lattes and chai frappucinos for years, but I didn’t try an iced chai until 2013. Now it’s one of my top orders.
What have you been obsessing over in December and what topped your list for 2013?
