13 DIY Halloween Costumes for Dogs

13 DIY Dog Halloween CostumesI love Halloween and Pug has a pretty sizable collection of store-bought Halloween costumes. But some of my favorites are homemade because you never want to show up to a doggy Halloween party in the same costume as the dog down the block! I’ve compiled 13 of my favorite DIY dog costumes (with instructions) from around the web so your pooch will be sure to stand out this Halloween.

Chia Pet Dog Costume

Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia! Celebrate one of the best as-seen-on TV products of all time with this DIY Chia Pet Dog Costume from Cutest Dog Ever. Kitai, the doggy model for this costume has passed on, but her legacy continues with her large collection of incredible DIY Halloween costumes. Check out the link above for the directions on how to make your own Chia Pet.

Dog Bat CostumeThis bat costume from Small Home Big Start look super simple to make while making a big impact. I have a lot of felt left over from last year’s Bowser costume so I might try to make these myself. How hilarious would it be for Pug to run around the store greeting customers with these bat wings?

Ewok Princess Leia and Darth Vader Dog CostumesThis tutorial from MakeZine includes a trio of adorable Star Wars costumes. Your dog an only child? Grab some friends and impress with this group costume! Group costumes are always a hit in my experience.

Hula Girl Dog CostumeThe best part of this Hula Girl costume from Modernette is I bet you could find all the supplies for it at the dollar store. Also, it’s simplicity means it would be great for a dog that doesn’t like wearing costumes. They probably wouldn’t notice they had anything on.

Pinata Dog CostumeWhile this costume from Alana Jones Mann looks slightly more time consuming than the hula girl, it’s still really simple and inexpensive if you buy your supplies at the dollar store. Also, the absurdity of a pug pinata just makes it all the better. Not going to lie, I’m already thinking maybe Pug should be a pinata for Canine de Mayo next year…

No-Sew Pirate Dog CostumeNot particularly crafty? No problem. You’d never know this pirate costume from Irresistible Pets was no-sew! Plus, you can repurpose it for “Talk Like a Pirate” day like Chuy here did.

Poop Factory Dog CostumeIt’s funny because it’s appropriate! Detailed directions can be found on Turtles & Tails.

Spider Dog CostumeI want you to imagine this little Frenchie (or any dog for that matter) bumbling by in this spider costume and try not to giggle. I know I couldn’t. This costume is a bit more complicated, but it’s from the Queen of Halloween Martha Stewart, so you know it’s good.

Starbucks Latte Dog CostumeYet another costume on my “must make” list. Blythe Epley combines two of my favorite things in the world – pugs and Starbucks in this Pugkin Spice Latte costume.

Sushi Dog CostumeI’m not a fan of sushi. I don’t actually eat fish of any kind. But, oddly I find sushi themed items really adorable. This sushi dog costume from Eat.Sleep.Make is no exception.

Last but not least is a video tutorial for this ridiculous and adorable bacon and egg couples costume for you and your dog. Sure, you could use the directions to make a costume for you and your significant other – but the dog version is way, way better.
