Monthly Obsessions: January 2015

A new year and a new month of favorites!

Maybelline The RocketFor a long time my absolute favorite mascara was Cover Girl Lash Blast. But, I decided at some point I wanted to try some new products to see what was out there. I went through several, and none of them were bad, but they weren’t as good as my old faithful Lash Blast either.

Until I tried Maybelline Volume’ Express The Rocket that is. Now, I have decently long lashes naturally, so I am looking for volume and the ability to hold a curl. This does both, but does add noticeable length too. I’ve actually looked back at pictures of me wearing this mascara and wondered if I was wearing false lashes!

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

Last month I picked up a couple of Real Techniques brushes, including the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. I’ve been interested in trying a Beauty Blender for a while, but was put off by the price. There are a ton of lower cost dupes on the market now, but they tend to get mixed reviews. One of my favorite YouTubers, Vintage or Tacky, raved about the Real Techniques sponge, even going so far as to say it was better than the Beauty Blender.

The first thing I used it for was blending out my concealer and it has seriously changed my life. I was forever wiping my concealer off while trying to blend it, and under my eyes tended to be a mess. This makes it look absolutely flawless. I’ve also been using it to apply my Pond’s BB Cream which was an old Monthly Obsession and still going strong. I really hate applying face products with my fingers, but since BB Creams need to be rubbed in and not just on, it never quite looks right with my typical foundation brushes. But again, with this sponge the application is flawless and it doesn’t feel sticky afterwards like it hasn’t been rubbed in enough.

Earth's Balance Pill Paste

I received this Pill Paste in my Blog Paws Conference Swag bag, and I’ve used it to give Pug pills throughout the year. He really loves the taste, but he loves everything so that doesn’t necessarily mean much. However, Molly was recently on medication and I had to use it on her. She gobbled the pills right down and she is my picky pain in the butt.

So, the flavor is definitely palatable. But the best thing about it is that you can scoop out only as much as you need, and mold it around any shaped pill. Pill pocket treats can be pricey, so I like that there is no waste when you use the Pill Paste. Pug likes the bacon flavor so much I barely have to use any at all!

Tazo Joy Tea

I spent many a winter day sitting in Starbucks on my laptop sipping a Joy Tea. Sadly, since they transitioned over to Teavana teas Joy is no longer offered in store. So, as soon as I saw tins at Target I snatched one up so I could at least enjoy a cup of Joy at home. At Starbucks I always drank it with honey and a splash of milk. But, it also pairs perfectly with my Coffee Mate Sweet Cream if I’m in a hurry.

Snapchat

I had no interest in Snapchat for a long time because I  felt like it was targeted at a younger crowd (get off my lawn!). But, I noticed more and more people I followed on Twitter and Instagram would occasionally post a Snapchat screen shot and I felt like I was missing out. It turns out I actually really enjoy it. I like using it for those quick little shots that aren’t really good enough for my Instagram feed, but are still funny or cute. If you have Snapchat and want to follow me (for 99% Pug pics) I’m thispuglife.

That’s it for my January faves, what are you loving this month?
